Dear ELASA friends and e.LAN friends,

There you have got a newsletter with all the information you want to know about the annual conference of ELASA.

ELASA '96 Conference will be held from 19th of April till 27th of April 1996 in Czech republic. 19 April is date of arrival of representatives. The repre meeting and arrival of delegates will be on Saturday 20. April. The first place of our meeting is small town named Kostelec nad Cernymi lesy nearby the Prague. The second part of our meeting will be held in the village Valtice. The village Valtice is part of Lednice-Valtice area, which is the most extensive composed area in central Europe.

The objective of our meeting is to address the position and role of people in cultivated environments. Since industrial development has often lead to the destruction of the environment with damaging effects which may take decades to restore. Reconstruction and conservation of the environment, landscape, gardens and parks have, therefore, become significant factors in the development of the human environment.

Site visits will provide participants with both positive and negative examples of the effects of development on the environment and will include a visit to Northern Bohemia to show the damage mining has caused to the area and some of the efforts recently being made to restore the landscape and change the environment.

We want continue in discussion on theme, which was discussed in Cheltenham last year, it means the topic of the conflict between the demand for development and the desire to conserve the rich historical heritage of the English landscape.

We want you to bring your opinion on the theme of reconstruction and preservation of historical objects (parks, gardens, larger areas, etc..). We would like to find differences between reconstruction and preservation policies through Europe, differences between post-communistic and west countries.

The way of presentations will consist of written papers, exhibition, slides, videos etc.

We want representatives to bring along:

1. Short paper on this topic, which will be read at conference. You can write about it generally or choose some good example you know, it would be fine if you will bring some slides, transparency films for projection etc.
2. The annual exhibition of projects will deal with this topic too. Measures of an exhibition board for each country are 100x120 cm. In case you won't find any work concerning this topic, don't worry and bring anything you consider as interesting in your school work.
3. Actualised information about your school.

Important information for all participants (representatives/ delegates):

• We send you 6 application forms together with this newsletter, there is possibility that there won't be such a number of participants from all countries, so in case more people from your country want to come, we'll give you quick message about possibilities after first deadline.
• The deadline we want you to send us application forms is 28th of March; with this, send us number of people which want to come (if more thant 6).
• We prefer to get all application forms from each country together to know final number of participants from the country.
• Participation fee:

  full price from 19.4.1996: 350 DM or 6200 CZK
  price from 20.4.1996: 320 DM or 5700 CZK
  50 % fee: 175 DM or 3100 CZK
  25 % fee: 90 DM or 1500 CZK

  50 % fee is for two representatives from these countries: Turkey, Poland, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Portugal

  25 % fee is for two representatives from these countries: Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Estonia

• Participation fee can be paid in DM or Czech crowns (it depends on your possibilities).
• We prefer sending it to ELASA account number before meeting, but there is possibility to pay it directly on date of arrival too.
• If you will pay by bank or post transmisssion, we will ask you to show us copy of bank/ post transmission order.
• Other important information on ELASA Conference '96 will be sent after receiving your application forms.
